Winter is not the most inspiring season for me, so even though Valloween (or Valentines Day, if you prefer the non-spooky version) was over a week ago, I didn't want to waste all that ready-made subject matter! Besides, I took lots of photos of the flowers and chocolates His Madness brought home from the grocery store so I could scroll through them on my phone while waiting nervously for the doctor or worse yet, the dentist.
In the middle of December, a spring on one of our garage doors broke. Since it was made in 1939, the mechanism couldn't be repaired and because there are two doors, both have to be replaced. It's a shame they couldn't be restored but there are lots of safety laws to obey and we quickly learned it would be best to just go with new ones. The local companies who specialize in overhead doors were very fast at giving us an estimate but hard to keep in contact with. It took weeks of calling in order to get them to call us back. Then the excuses started, admittedly they were legitimate, like supply chain issues and people being out sick with Covid. Finally, someone actually called us back and all we had to do was choose the doors, give them lots of money and maybe we will be able to use our garage by July, possibly October at the latest!
So we launched off on a Valloween adventure to find the one company that would take our money!
Let's just say it was located about an hour away, on a lonely country road. Just kidding, the people were really nice even though it looked like the kind of place you might come across a body or two.
After surviving our adventure we decided to celebrate by baking cookies.
What else is there to do anymore, plus it was a little too early to start drinking.
Burt knows he shouldn't eat raw cookie dough!
Yes, HM actually WEIGHS each cookie because the recipe says they should be 1.5 ounces each.
He's not called His Madness for nothing,
So we celebrated Valloween and getting the garage doors ordered with lots of chocolate.
Hope you had a great day, whatever you celebrate!
(You have to love Photoshop, but is it one "L" or two?)
Thanks for stopping by, see you soon!
