A Not So Haunted Humpday in Prague

Happy Haunted Humpday!

The skeleton crew is joining Marfi at Incipient Wings for some spooky fun leading up to Halloween.
Ivy & Burt are looking after Stewart and Spenser while His Madness and I Czech out Prague.

There aren't many signs of Halloween in other parts of the world, although it was only late September when His Madness and I ran into one of Ivy & Burt's friends at O'Hare . . .

. . . and another one at the Dublin airport on our way to Prague a few days later.
Isn't it interesting that Kiehl's has chosen a skeleton to promote it's skin care products?
I didn't have time to read their mission statement but imagined it went something like . . .
 "use our moisturiser, or else!"

Most of His Madness's ancestors came from eastern Europe so we are beginning our vacation adventure in the Czech Republic. After settling into our lodgings in Prague we headed over to the St. Charles Bridge, apparently with everyone else in the city, ha! (Pardon the iPhone photo.)

We stopped to admire the astronomical clock . . .

. . . and to locate one of Burt's old friends (upper right hand corner) before heading up the hill.

These cute cookies on display outside Sweets Prague were the only specifically Halloween items I saw in the city. The leaves are changing but sadly there's no spooky reminders of All Hallow's Eve.

I shouldn't complain as there are plenty of other things to look at in Prague. It has had it's share of horrible public executions but those stories are way too icky to recount here. I did look up the Defenestration of Prague but found it difficult to understand. Somehow one group of guys decided to throw another group of guys out of a window, possibly over differences concerning religious authority? According to one account the victims actually survived the fall by landing in a pile of manure. The scariest experience we've had so far was after walking up a very steep hill, discovering we still had all these steps left to climb before we got to the very top. It was worth it though . . .

. . . because we were happy to discover a familiar jolt of caffeine at the summit.
There's nothing like a well preserved medieval city with a Starbucks.

The castle complex on top of the hill included St. Vitus Cathedral. Despite it being a real Gothic structure it was impossible to get a spooky looking photo against the bright blue sky.

The gargoyles came closer.

Wonder what this guy did to deserve ending up as a downspout?

There was also this very cool door on the side of the cathedral. It is sort of pumpkin coloured.

"By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes." Or not. Ok, it's HM's index finger but silliness always prevails here. Since we were half-way back down the hill, we decided it was high time to reward all that exertion with some excellent beer and have a laugh about all those steps!

It's a beautiful city irregardless of it's lack of any general spookiness. I wasn't really expecting to find any sort of Halloween trimmings but then again you never know what's around the next corner. Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!

Na shiedanou & dekuji!

  1. Gorgeous photos!
    It does look amazing there.
How cute were those cookies though? I'd be a little sad not finding many Halloween goodies, but I think the fact that the gargoyles are year round is scary enough to last season after season, lol.
good for you both for braving the hill and the stairs!
Hope you are well and that Burt and Ivy have behaved while you two are away.

    1. OMG, those steps! We should have called an Uber to take us to the top and just walked down, ha! It truly is an amazing place and even though it's always completely packed with tourists, it was definitely worth a visit.
I have to admit that missing these weeks leading up to Halloween has been getting to me. Plus I'm more than a little afraid to imagine what sorts of mischief my kitties have been up to.
      Thanks for dropping in!
