The First Day of October

The countdown has begun.
Actually, it goes on all year long in our house but that's irrelevant.

The calendar may say it's spooky season but it's 87°F. here and we're probably going to have to turn on the AC- in October - in Wisconsin! Ivy's Pumpkin Spice latte is obviously going to end up as a cold brew. It's okay, she likes them both. Cold brews versus hot lattes aside, life has become a little too calamitous around here lately and nothing has been going as planned. For the last four years I've been doing a daily blog post during the month of October and I may not be able to keep up that schedule this year, although I definitely intend to try.

You never know what you're going to find when you start making minor repairs. We have been promised a usable, up to code, front porch before the Trick or Treating starts but I do have an alternative plan, just in case.

Then there's just plain bad luck. Someday HM and I will actually get to the apple orchard. FYI, check to see if your car actually has a spare tire. We never looked and discovered there was just a can of aerosol foam. Not something that was going to work on a blow out at 80mph on a six-lane highway. Luckily, the tow truck driver was really entertaining and very accommodating so it wasn't a horrible experience, just expensive.

Between the heatwave and domestic drama, it's been hard to convince myself to do a deep dive into the seasonal decor closet of shame. No, I don't need all this stuff, but someday, I might.

Spenser, with one of his "I knew all along that we wouldn't find it" looks.
Maybe we'll have better luck tomorrow.

I make brunch on Sundays, for no particular reason except that it's something different from lunch. Today Huevos Rancheros was on the menu, in honor of our Hispanic friends since it's National Hispanic Heritage Month and because we have lots of ripe peppers.

By contrast, the tomato plants didn't produce much this year, except this one cherry variety. Weirdly, they all seem to have woken up now and are sprouting green tomatoes everywhere.

It's always good to have an appreciative audience . . .

. . . and someone to do the cleaning up!

Thanks for stopping by, see you tomorrow, hopefully.

Happy October!
