Spirit Day

Today is Spirit Day but it doesn't have anything to do with ghosts.

Spirit Day first began in 2010 when Brittany McMillan, a Canadian teenager, wanted to remember the many LGBTQ youth who had died by suicide. She created a Facebook event asking people to wear purple to show that they stood against anti-LGBTQ bullying.

Ivy and Burt are wearing purple today in support of  LGBTQ youth and to take a stand against bullying too. Seemingly out of nowhere, a rainbow appeared on the photo, ha!

Gilbert Baker, who devised the Rainbow Pride flag, saw each color as having its own meaning. Spirit Day got its name from the purple stripe on the flag because purple represents spirit.

It's important to spread the word and commit to standing up for the LGBTQ community.
No one should ever be bullied.

It's time to build a future where everyone feels loved and accepted, just as they are.

Thanks for stopping by, see you tomorrow!
