Sunday Brunch with Purple Flowers

It's Sunday and that usually means there's brunch happening at our house. A long time ago, I started making a large batch of waffles every Sunday and a tradition was born. It all began when my son developed a fondness for those frozen Eggo ones and set a roll of paper towels on fire while making a snack for himself after school. So I decided that since he liked waffles that much I'd better make some that were actually healthy but also less flammable. So every Sunday I made a large batch of waffles, we ate some and the rest were frozen for snacks. It seems he lost his appetite for them almost immediately and His Madness had to finish up all the leftovers by himself.

There's no waffles on the menu today but brunch is a good excuse to go all out setting the table. It's always nice to have a fresh flowers and His Madness found this very interesting bouquet at the Farmer's Market. I was completely stumped by these amazing, deep blue-violet blooms at first but it turns our they are a double form of Lisianthus. To the Victorians they symbolized appreciation.

To Ivy, they symbolized the perfect bouquet for the skull tablecloth!

Today we had quiche. I put Blue Curacao in the juice glasses thinking it would match the vase but instead it just looks weird, ha! It got swapped for orange juice so we didn't pass out immediately after eating.

HM made the Broccoli and Cheddar quiche. It was out of this world.

Ivy was inspired by the purple bouquet to add a few extra Halloween decorations. It looks pink here but the bat is actually purple! (It was not a good day for photographing colors.)

Burt was inspired, too.

A lot.

This is how the post-brunch table eventually turned out. The pretty bouquet went inside and was replaced by an aster that can stand the 40°F it's getting down to tonight. Burrr! So much for our outdoor dining this coming week! Hopefully, there will be a few more nice days ahead.

How was your Sunday?
Thanks for stopping by, see you tomorrow!
