It's a soggy day in the neighborhood.
The flowers are soaked . . .
. . . the flamingos have drippy beaks,
. . . and Ivy just walked in the door with some parking signage! What's this? Has she turned into a vandal?
(Thank goodness it's not a stop sign!)
She just picked up a new broom for short trips. The sign came with it. Unfortunately, she won't be trying it out today unless the weather clears up.
Since the weather was so dreary, His Madness decided to bake not just one but two loaves of bread today. This one is for sandwiches.
This second one is caraway rye. Kibitz was very impressed with how huge it became while it was rising. Everyone had to change their plans because of the rain, so we decided to play a board game to cheer ourselves up.
Since the Senate began confirmation hearing on a new Supreme Court justice today we thought this was a fitting choice. Like most Americans, we held Justice Ginsburg in high regard and think the current Republicans in the Senate are a bunch of assholes, not to mention hypocrites to ram through another conservative justice when they had denied President Obama the same opportunity four years ago. I'll never understand how they can be so cruel to take away peoples health insurance during a pandemic, separate immigrant children from their parents, destroy the environment and marginalize women and minorities.
Anyway, this game was inspired in part by Ruth Bader Ginsburg's fiery dissents. Particularly relevant today is the one she wrote when the Supreme Court threw out a key part of the Voting Rights Act in 2013. She compared the reduction of voter protections to "throwing away your umbrella in a rainstorm because you are not getting wet." So seven years later, here we are, worried about voting.
Anyway, back to the board game that was supposed to be taking our minds off current events! It's all about strategy, so who won this hand? Ivy actually, with a dissent card and she is the new Chief Justice, because it's her turn. Ominously, the next argument is apparently about predicting the future. Not that we're nervous about it or anything.
As for the caraway rye bread . . . it looks tasty, butt . . .
Thanks for stopping by, see you tomorrow!
