Picking Peppers for Brunch

Today is Sunday and Huevos Rancheros is on the brunch menu at Casa Esqueletos.

Every year the hot peppers I plant either die out completely or produce enough to supply a small business. This year I planted two varieties, Habanero and Sriracha and had a bumper crop of both. Now that they are finally ready to use in cooking, Burt and Kibitz went out to pick one for the sauce.

They got a little carried away, that's probably enough to burn down the house.

It looks like it's cherry tomatoes for the sauce, ha!

Finding the cilantro isn't always easy. They will probably come back to the kitchen with parsley, but that's okay, it's one of the ingredients in the recipe, too.

None of the pumpkin seeds I planted this spring came up and a second try didn't germinate either. Then in late June a promising looking volunteer appeared among  the onions! It turned out to be a cantaloupe. Still, in a week or so it will be on the brunch menu.

That should be enough for some spicy tomato sauce.

Finally, sort of spooky Huevos Rancheros. We were out of Oaxaca so Cheddar had to be substituted. It does change the flavor but it at least it goes with the color scheme.

It doesn't look like HM minds too much. This is one of his favorites, can you tell?

Thanks for stopping by, see you tomorrow!
