Knives In

It's Friday the Thirteenth and it's still raining here, not that it's a bad thing. So far nothing too unlucky has happened but the day's not over yet.

Since outdoor activities are out of the question, His Madness has enlisted the help of The Crew to make a pie. It's going to be a squash pie because that's what we have on hand. Splitting it in two is always the dicey part and it brings up the question, how many ways are there to cut a squash in half? Let's call this one the slasher technique.

This method looks more like an attempted murder.

Then, there's just being careful. Not as dramatic but a lot safer.

Spenser spent the whole time on the patio watching the rain.
He finds baking too violent.

Back in the kitchen it was time to put together the pie.

A few years ago there was an article online about how a lot of canned pumpkin pie filling is made from winter squash. Of course I had to look it up and discovered that Libby's brand pumpkin puree is made from a strain of pumpkins that they developed specially for themselves. Which means their puree is actually made from a variety of pumpkins that just happens to be as close to butternut squash as possible.

Adding the Crust Dust, HM's new secret ingredient. He read about on the King Arthur Baking website. Guess it's not all that secret.

Kibitz added the final touches because everyone needed to participate.
Wait, are those pumpkins?

Thanks for stopping by, see you tomorrow!
