After a long day, His Madness and I decided to watch The Invisible Man, one of the classic monster films we have never seen. At least in this set, ha!
The cider was also on the brink of turning into vinegar so that was a good excuse for indulging in drinks and snacks. Googling food and cocktail pairings for apple cider turned up a lot of strange combos but we stuck with the classics - blue cheese and walnuts - because we had them on hand.
His Madness brought home this bag of Ghost Puffs so we had to give them a try whether they went with cider or not. They're basically little cheeto-like blobs that vaguely resembled spectral beings but they're crunchy and taste okay.
Speaking of snacks, we tend to get a little overrun with them during this time of the year. Lately, the excess has been stored in plastic bags and hung from the fret work on our kitchen island. It's ugly and inconvenient but it clears off the counters! Obviously, we need to eat more or buy less.
Then it dawned on me that all that stuff could at least go in a better looking bag.
Voila! It's still weird and drives me crazy but it's better looking.
When we finally got around to making the drinks, we changed our minds about mixing mulling spices with rum and cider. Just as Burt was opening the packet I caught a whiff of the contents. It immediately took me back to my college dorm days and waking up with a Captain Morgan headache! Yeah, that was a lucky catch, so we skipped the rum, too! The mulling spices will be great in wine at Thanksgiving or maybe just simmering on the stove to making the house smell nice.
It was a rocky start but eventually we did get around to watching the movie. The special effects were really pretty good for 1933 and the hot apple cider with vodka wasn't too bad either.
My favorites are still The Mummy and The Bride of Frankenstein but this was entertaining, too. Does anyone else see a resemblance to Dr. Finkelstein here?
Thanks for stopping by, see you tomorrow!
