A Rainy Day in the Woods

The leaves are turning red and gold . . . and unfortunately brown!
It's definitely fall now.

Last Thursday, His Madness and I paid a visit to Mosquito Hill Nature Center hoping to take in all the autumnal glory. Let's just say the autumnal part was a little sparse.

This year, the leaves on the trees have been staying green much longer than usual. That's not necessarily a bad thing but if it goes on too long, they'll just drop with a hard freeze and we will miss out on the blaze of colors.

There were a few trees that had gotten the memo.

As we were turning into the nature center it started to rain lightly but we decided to ignore it. Actually, the gloomy weather seemed to make the colors of the leaves look more intense.

We trudged on, up and down the hill, past the aspens and through the prairie.

When we got to the oxbow lake, the trees were actually looking a little past their prime.

Happily, in most areas the leaves were starting to take on a golden glow, even of the sun wasn't.
We should probably visit again soon so we don't miss the big show!

Thanks for stopping by, see you tomorrow!
