Kibitz

Time flies! Kibitz, does too, just not as fast.
He often gets overlooked because he's so good at playing a supporting role to Burt and Ivy's silly dramas but he's a very important member of the team.

He joined the Skeleton Crew on International Talk Like A Pirate Day in 2015. Just for clarification, Kibitz was a raven before becoming a skeletal being, probably Corvus corax plasticus or possibly targetus, according to fantasy science. In reality, ravens are larger than crows and have a pointy tail rather than fan shaped. Both ravens and crows are members of the Corvidae family and have no relationship with Don Corleone. If they did, it was strictly business and nothing personal.

In his poem, The Raven, Edgar Allan Poe refers to the bird that taps on his chamber door as a "grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt and ominous bird of yore." Harsh. It seems like ravens have had an unfortunate reputation at times. As a flock, they're referred to as a conspiracy or unkindness of ravens. I guess that's not as bad as being called a murder of crows. Supposedly, these names come from times past when animal groupings were given colorful and poetic names, like an ostentation of peacocks, a parliament of owls, or a knot of frogs and thankfully, not based on actual incidents.

In Nordic mythology, Odin had two ravens, Huginn and Muninn. The names translate as thought and memory. They were basically the eyes, mind and memory of this uninformed, forgetful god with no depth perception who only drank wine and spoke exclusively in poetry. Sounds like ravens have always had their work cut out for them.

He may not serve a god, although Spenser might disagree, but he is always happy to share his knowledge and be extremely patient with those who need a little extra help understanding directions.

He is willing to spend extra time explaining things in detail.

Even if he puts his audience to sleep. Every family has a Fredo.

Burt and Ivy have been very happy to have this dapper little know-it-all as their companion and are looking forward to new adventures. Even Spenser is warming up to him.

Thanks for stopping by, see you tomorrow!
