I'm always running into recipes for Halloween treats on the internet so it was inevitable that I'd eventually convince His Madness to give one a try. Besides, we've eaten up the apple pie and donuts.
Since HM is a big fan of peanut butter and almost everyone loves chocolate, we decided on Peanut Butter Spider Cookies. It looked like a recipe we could handle. We immediately got off to a rocky start by forgetting to put the Reese's Miniature Cups in the freezer beforehand but as it turned out, that wasn't the biggest problem.
They are basically plain old peanut butter cookies with peanut butter cups, candy eyes and legs drawn on with melted chocolate. If we ever make them again I'd use my mom's recipe, which is much better tasting than the one we used from the internet.
At least they were easy to make!
After taking them out of the oven, HM shoved the semi-frozen peanut butter cup into the middle of the warm cookies. Kibitz made sure they were dead center.
Ivy was in charge of disposing of the ones that weren't perfect.
Then the candy eyeballs went on. Wonder how much they had to drink?
The very last step, drawing on the legs with melted chocolate, was a challenge. It was my turn to pitch in and I never imagined it was going to be that difficult. The first one looked really bad and then they just kept getting worse. I probably should've quit then and called them chocolate sun cookies but it's the spooky season. They had to look like spiders!
Eventually, I gave up because the chocolate kept cooling back into a solid. They ended up looking more like Minions with their heads stuck in life preservers than spiders. Not that anyone will notice but at least they have eight legs!
Thanks for stopping by, see you tomorrow!
